Police said that the main accused who opened fired at two Punjab residents was acting on the basis of a Pakistani handler with whom he got in touch on social media
The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday busted a module involved in the killing of two Punjab residents in Srinagar and arrested a local who was directed by his handler in Pakistan to carry out an attack.
Adil Manzoor Langoo, a resident of Zaldagar area of the city has been arrested and the postal used for the crime has also been recovered.
While speaking to the media in Srinagar, Additional Director General of Police (ADG_ Vijay Kumar said, “Adil Manzoor of Srinagar’s Zaldagar is the main accused who opened fired at two Punjab residents. He was acting on the basis of Pakistan handler who he got in touch with him on social media.”
The operation to catch the accused was based on both field and technical analysis.
“FIR was registered and a SIT was constituted by the DIG Central Kashmir. Police did field and technical analysis,” V. K. Birdi, IGP Kashmir said.
Police said that they rounded up suspects after which role of Adil Manzoor came up and he was arrested on the basis of the evidence.
“Main suspect (Adil) who is now the main accused was in touch with a Pakistani handler who asked him carry out an attack and provided him a weapon,” he said.
ADGP Law and Order Jammu and Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said that police will act tough against the Pakistani handlers who are locals but are residing in Pakistan at present.
“We are and will take action according to the law. We will seize the properties of the local handlers who are sitting across and recruiting locals here to carry out terrorist activities,” Vijay said.
ADG also said that the police are acting professionally to deal with incidents of terror activities in Kashmir.
While answering a question about the presence of terrorists in Srinagar, he said that one local terrorist, identified as Momin is active in Srinagar.
“There are only 25 local terrorists active in Kashmir and 25 to 30 foreign terrorists are also active in Kashmir,” ADG Kumar said while urging parents and teachers to keep the close watch on their children especially those who spend most of the time on social media platforms.
