A home guard was killed, while six personnel of the Bihar Military Police (BMP) were injured after an escort vehicle from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav’s convoy met with an accident in Bihar’s Purnea late Monday night.
According to police, the deceased is identified as 50-year-old Haleem Alam, who was driving the escort vehicle that collided head-on with another car.
The six injured BMP jawans, who were in the same jeep, were admitted to the government medical college at Purnea where their condition was said to be out of danger, according to Purnea SP Upendra Nath Verma.

The accident happened while Yadav was on a tour of the state as part of the “Jan Vishwas Yatra”.
A video of the accident is being widely shared on social media, a vehicle can be seen pulling both vehicles away. The front police jeep and the other car were heavily damaged in the crash.

“Tejashwi Yadav, the former deputy chief minister and the leader of the opposition, was passing through the district, on his way to Katihar. As per protocol, we had sent a vehicle from the police lines to escort him,” SP said.
The police jeep, while trying to keep pace with Yadav’s vehicle, “ended up on the wrong side of the Purnea-Katihar road and crashed into a car coming from the opposite side. Home guard Mohd Halim who was driving the vehicle, died on the spot,” he added.
