The Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) police filed an FIR against Telangana BJP legislator T Raja Singh for allegedly delivering a hate speech at a rally on Mira Road on February 25.

A senior officer from MBVV police told The Indian Express that the FIR was lodged two days ago against Raja Singh. The officer mentioned that in addition to Singh, the event organiser Naresh Nile has also been named as an accused in the case.

This action follows a petition filed in the Bombay High Court a week ago, seeking the registration of an offence against Singh, BJP MLA Nitesh Rane, and Mira Road BJP MLA for allegedly delivering hate speeches.

Explaining the month-long delay, the official stated, “We had recorded the speech. After going through it we sought legal opinion, as per which an offence was made out. We then registered an FIR.”

The FIR was filed under sections 153(A) and 295(A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertain to creating divisions among communities and hurting their sentiments. The police officer mentioned that they will soon send notices to the accused individuals.

On February 25, Raja Singh reportedly made communal remarks at a rally in Mira Road, despite the Bombay High Court granting permission for the event to commemorate the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the condition that no hate speeches would be delivered.

Addressing the audience, Singh allegedly spoke for over 40 minutes about Chhatrapati Shivaji, during which he reportedly used derogatory language towards the Muslim community. He also urged people to vow to work for a Hindu Rashtra and fight against jihad, conversion, and cow slaughter.

Singh reportedly urged Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis to “liberate” Shivaji’s forts from the mosques he claimed were built there illegally.

“I want to ask how many forts are safe. On over 100 forts, they have either built majids or some fakir’s dargahs. I want to request the ASI (Archeological Survey of India) to survey all forts that have been captured by them. I want to request Devendra Fadnavis and CM Shinde to liberate all forts of Maharaj that have been captured,” the BJP MLA said the rally.
