The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday conducted searches at 11 locations in Delhi and Nagaland. The searches were part of an ongoing investigation into a case involving the recovery of unaccounted cash totalling Rs 71.5 lakh, suspected to be bribe money. The searches led to the recovery of incriminating documents and digital devices among other things.

CBI registered a case against several Nagaland government officials including an Additional Secretary (IAS), Department of Agriculture, a Deputy Conservator of Forest and a Vetenary Assistant Surgeon, Department of Animal Husbandry.

Working under Project FOCUS (Fostering Climate Resilient Upland Farming System) in Nagaland, the accused persons were earlier questioned by the Income Tax (IT) department after cash amounting to Rs 71.50 lakh was recovered from their possession during a flight from Dimapur to Delhi.

Based on the disclosures made by the accused, it was discovered that the cash amount belonged to the Additional Secretary who had received it as a bribe associated with the said project for approving the bills.

It was further alleged that the accused had conspired in receiving and transporting the bribe amount to Delhi.
