Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana covers 50 crore beneficiaries, which makes it one of the largest healthcare schemes in the world.
Ayushman Bharat Diwas is marked on April 30. This day is observed to commemorate the launch of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) scheme on September 23, 2018. AB-PMJAY is a healthcare initiative aimed at providing beneficiaries with financial coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh for secondary and tertiary hospitalization care.
The scheme is jointly funded by the central and state governments that opt to participate. As of July 2021, AB-PMJAY has been implemented in all states and union territories except West Bengal, NCT of Delhi, and Odisha.
The eligibility for being a scheme beneficiary depends on the deprivation criteria mentioned in the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) of 2011. Some of these conditions are: “being homeless, landless households that get income from manual casual labour, having only one room with kucha walls and kucha roof, people from primitive tribal groups.” The eligibility criteria are different for rural and urban residents.
So far, more than 50 crore people have been identified as eligible under the Ayushman Bharat scheme based on the 2011 Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) list. All Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana card holders are also eligible for the scheme. One can call the AB-PMJAY helpline at 14555 or 1800-111-565 to check their eligibility.
